Mari H Price

My path has taken me from software development to leadership and product design, with people at the centre throughout.  Over the past 12 years, I've built software, led teams, designed products, and mentored colleagues and students. Today, I bring that mix of experience to creating stronger teams and helping people grow.

Design Systems

Bringing visual & UX cohesion to users and bridging hand-off to developers

As a software engineer, I built design system components in Vue.js, including reusable, responsive layouts for the My Account customer portal.

As a senior product designer, I co-led a design system overhaul, with outcomes including:

  • Assisting in team interviews, leading to the hiring of a new designer with strong design systems experience

  • Delivering a Figma component library consisting of tokens, variants, layouts, icons, typography, and other reusable patterns

  • Collaborating closely with engineers to assess technical feasibility, review design implementation, and maintain user documentation

  • Providing accessibility guidance on new design system components and advocating for customer inclusivity in brand updates

Our small design system team faced a number of challenges, from changing Figma guidelines to rapid Product growth outpacing our capacity. I learned to be flexible, collaborate early and often, and be willing to pivot, not holding my ideas too dearly. Together we supported several major product upgrades and continuous front-end development.

  • Synthesized internal and external interview data for a holistic view

  • Advocated for UX improvements using research artifacts

  • Mentored a colleague by collaborating on a service blueprint

Mobile Design

Redesigning an Android app for Covenant Eyes

Covenant Eyes helps Christians reflect on their online activity and stay safe from explicit content. I redesigned their Android app for a cleaner UI and smoother UX.

Role: Designer
Skills: UI design, interaction design

Leadership

Tools come and go, but people are forever.  Helping people and teams thrive brings me a lot of joy and makes everything we do more sustainable.

My experience includes:

  • Forming and leading a UX mentorship programme providing opportunities for 20+ designers

  • Helping 2 colleagues (pictured!) transition into full-time design & research roles

  • Hiring, managing, and coaching software developers in frontend development, databases, and DevOps

  • Leading a weekly educational series on design principles and methodologies

  • Managing a databases workshop for computer science university students, improving the material by adding hands-on lab sessions

  • Introducing Java and GitHub to a high-school FIRST Robotics club, taking students from zero knowledge to competition ready

  • Providing ongoing ad-hoc reviews of resumes, portfolios, and academic essays

My philosophy

Provide hands-on experience in a hands-off way and learn new things together.I constantly seek opportunities for my mentees, equip them with relevant knowledge, and help them grow in self-confidence and autonomy.
